There are weeks where common sense overrules strategy and research in daily fantasy and last week’s NFL slate was certainly a good example of one of those weeks… Gronk is out? Start Chandler. Hurns is out? Start Robinson. Cam plays Saints? Start him.
I haven’t started my week 14 research, but just putting together a roster at first-glance, here is who I like for week 14 and why…
Blake Bortles – In our second full slate since week 3, their are certainly plenty of favorable matchups, but perhaps none more-so than Bortles and the Jags who get Indy at home. Indy has given up 20+ points to opposing quarterbacks every week this season except one, are coming off their worst performance of the season, and Bortles is red-hot and playing at home. He also remains underpriced on FanDuel at just $7,700. Also consider: Ben Roethlisberger, Tyrod Taylor, and Eli Manning.
Todd Gurley – St. Louis may break out in riots again if Fisher and co hold Gurley under 10 carries for a third week. The Lions have been better against the run over the past month, but we are betting Gurley breaks at least one long run at home in week 14. If he can get back to the guy that made him the highest priced running back on FanDuel for a period, Gurley is an absolute steal at $7,900.
Doug Martin – Jameis will be a popular pick this week against the Saints, but hasn’t shown a high enough ceiling for me to commit to him in several lineups. Instead, I like Muscle Hamster and his 25 carries per game to have a big performance against the porous Saints defense.
Sammy Watkins – This game has the potential to turn into a shootout, neither pass defense has been great this season, but whether or not I use Watkins will likely come down to the weather in what could be a frigid December day in Philly. Also in this price range that I like in week 14 is Martavis Bryant, Brandin Cooks, and T.Y. Hilton.
Jarvis Landry – With Rishard Matthews likely out again, and facing a stiff run defense and porous pass defense, I’m betting on Landry to bounce back this week. The Dolphins won’t be able to run on Miami, Parker is a home run threat, so Landry could have a 15+ target game against the defense surrendering the most fantasy PPG to opposing receivers.
Allen Hurns – This has the potential to be one of those weeks where Allen Robinson sees Vontae Davis and safety help, while Hurns tears up Indy’s number 2 and 3 corners. We have seen it several times already this season, and the combination of his injury and Robinson’s big game have helped to keep Hurns affordable on FanDuel.
Scott Chandler – Assuming Gronk doesn’t play this week… Chandler and the Pats will be playing indoors against one of the league’s worst pass defenses. Houston has been above league average against tight ends, but have given up two 20+ point games and 4 16+ point games… Chandler should have a similar week to what we saw the last two.
