Top Plays for DraftKings Week 17 Contests
This is a strange but crucial time of year for daily fantasy football players. As we approach the climax of the regular season, it can become quite a challenge to make selections for your rosters. This is because the majority of teams simply don’t have too much to play for anymore. Five of the divisional titles have already been claimed and, with Week 17 on the way, most of the playoff spots have been taken as well.
This means that coaches might rest a few of their starters or spread some opportunities around their squads. Fantasy enthusiasts need to respond in the right ways to take advantage of this situation. There is lots of value to be found among the final set of games, and we’re here to help you spot it. If you’re a fan of fantasy football on DraftKings, read on for some of the best options to add to your roster this week.
Matt Ryan, Quarterback, Atlanta Falcons, $5,500
Ryan will be a very popular selection heading into Week 17 and with good reason. His latest performance was one of his best of the season so far as he put up 306 yards and a touchdown without giving away a single interception. That performance was against one of the best teams of the NFL in 2015, the Carolina Panthers.
This week, Ryan will be ending the regular season with a clash against the Saints. New Orleans have been weak against the pass lately and Ryan has good history against them, getting two touchdowns and 295 yards the last time the two teams met. At $5,500, he offers great value.
Javorius Allen, Running Back, Baltimore Ravens, $4,400
Allen’s struggles in Week 15 lowered his value on fantasy sites, but he just put in a fantastic performance against the Steelers. In that game, he managed 79 rushing yards and a touchdown. He’s had a solid season overall with some impressive averages: 13.5 carries, 6.5 targets, 43.8 receiving yards and 49.3 rushing yards.
Since DraftKings awards points for receptions, Allen could be a very important player for your squad. He’ll be going up against the Bengals, who have allowed opposition RB players to touch the ball often.
Keshawn Martin, Wide Receiver, New England Patriots, $3,000
The Patriots have locked down the AFC East divisional title but are still challenging for that crucial top seed. However, they might decide to rest their starting receivers. If Edelman and Amendola are given some time off, the opportunity would be perfect for Keshawn Martin to show what he can do.
Last week, Martin linked up very well with Tom Brady to get 11 targets and 7 receptions. If he can repeat a similar performance against the Dolphins, he offers excellent value.
Cameron Artis-Payne, Running Back, Carolina Panthers, $4,300
In his most recent game, Artis-Payne put up 56 yards while only touching the ball 6 times. He always looks like a player who is ready to shock the stadium with an explosive play and that could be enough to earn him a spot on your roster. Fozzy Whittaker is definitely not playing in Week 16 and Jonathan Stewart might be out as well. If that happens, Artis-Payne will be allowed to run the game. He’ll be playing against a solid Tampa Bay squad but should be able to earn some points for your team.
Antonio Brown, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers, $9,300
Paying up for the highest priced player on the board is tough to do, but Brown is on an absolute roll right now, and is a solid bet to hit value despite the lofty price tag. We are projecting a 10 reception/150 yard/1 touchdown (34 point) game out of Brown against the struggling Browns secondary.
Zach Ertz, Tight End, Philadelphia Eagles, $3,600
Ertz has been playing very well of late, so it’s no surprise that his fantasy value has skyrocketed. He has been linking up very well with Sam Bradford over the course of the last month and that partnership should continue to bear fruit in a Week 17 matchup against the Giants. Ertz has earned 37 targets for 26 receptions, along with a touchdown and 298 yards just in the last few weeks. If you need a TE, he’s a great choice.
Vance McDonald, Tight End, San Francisco 49ers, $3,000
Another TE selection for Week 17 is Vance McDonald. If you need to save a little bit of cash, the $600 discount he offers when compared to Ertz could be interesting. He had a good game last week, catching 5 of 7 targets for 61 yards as well as scoring a touchdown. All season long he has been a reliable player for the 49ers, rarely finishing a game in recent weeks without 60+ yards and a good number of catches. A matchup against the Rams should prove to be another excellent opportunity for McDonald to do what he does best.
Indianapolis Colts, DST, $2,400
The Colts will be playing against the Tennessee Titans, who have had a pretty miserable season in 2015. It’s true that Indianapolis has given up a good number of yards and points in recent times, but this is one matchup they should be able to dominate. At $2,400, they’re a great and inexpensive option for your fantasy leagues.
Dallas Cowboys, DEF, $2,100
The Cowboys haven’t been quite as strong defensively as people may have expected before the season began. However, they’re going up against a Redskins team who have literally got nothing to play for. If Washington coach Jay Gruden decides to rest a few players, this could be a great time for the Cowboys to finish the season on a high.
